, Home Minister held a meeting with the CMS of four border states of Rajasthan, Jammu & Kashmir, Punjab and Gujarat. It was decided at the meeting that the entire Indo-Pak border will be sealed by 2018. To monitor the 3000-plus kilometer border, a Border Security Grid has been envisaged. Indo-Pak Border
- India, Pakistan share 3323 kilometre border
- This includes LoC in J&K
- Indo-Pak international border is 2289.66 km, while LoC is 778km
- International border runs across 4 states
- 2,098 km border runs through Gujarat, Rajasthan, Punjab
- Punjab shares 553 km with Pak
- Rajasthan shares 1037 km with Pak
- Gujarat shares 508 km with Pak
The sealing process
- Of the 2289.66 km international border, 2034.96 km has been covered
- Plan to cover 254.80 km
- Plan covers areas guarded by BSF
- LoC is guarded by Indian Army
- After sealing, 1 or 2 checkpoints will be erected in this area
- Checkpoints will facilitate traffic, goods movement.
Like the one at Wagah
How border will be sealed
- CCTV, Laser fencing, motion sensors will be installed
- Concrete walls like those on Israel-Palestine border are not ruled out
